Getting There & Away
BOAT
Volos is a gateway to the northern Sporades isles of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos.
Ferries arrive and depart from the far end of the dock; hydrofoils from the near end. The
following are high-season schedules. Note: these change regularly.

BUS
From the KTEL Volos bus station ( 24210 33254; www.ktelvolou.gr ; cnr Zachou &
Almyrou) , opposite the tourist info centre, buses depart for Athens (€28, 4½ hours, 10
daily), Larisa (€5.30, one hour, eight daily), Thessaloniki (€19, 2½ hours, eight to nine
daily), Trikala (€14, 2½ hours, four daily) and Ioannina (€24, 4½ hours, three daily).

TRAIN
The atmospheric Volos train station ( 24210 24056; Papadiamanti) is 200m northwest of
Plateia Riga Fereou. Nine trains run daily to Larisa (€34, one hour), which is the place to
catch connections to Athens (normal/express €19/36, seven daily) and Thessaloniki (nor-
mal/express €12/22, hourly), although check whether these are still running, as there
were mumblings about their cessation at time of research. You can also check schedules
and buy tickets at the OSE outlet (Dimitriados;
8am-4pm Mon-Fri) near the university.
