BUS
Buses leave Larisa's KTEL station ( 24105 67600; cnr Georgiadou & Olympou) for Athens
(€28, four hours, eight daily), Thessaloniki (€15, two hours, seven daily), Volos (€5.30,
one hour, 10 to 12 daily) and Ioannina (€18.70, four hours, three daily).
From the branch KTEL Trikalon station ( 24106 10124; Iroön Polytechniou) , near the
junction with Gazi Anthimou, buses run regularly to/from Trikala (€6.30, one hour,
hourly). For Meteora, take the Trikala bus, then change for Kalambaka.
TRAIN
Express and normal trains pass daily through Larisa's train station ( 24102 36250; cnr
28 Octovriou & Iroön Polytechniou) to/from Thessaloniki (normal €6.70, 1¾ hours, express
€15 to €20, 1½ hours) and Athens (normal €23, express €28 to €36, 3½ hours, three
daily). You can buy tickets at the OSE office (

Once called ancient Iolkos, Volos was the mythic home of Jason and his band of Argo-
nauts. These days, Volos is a large and bustling university city on the northern shores of
the Pagasitikos Gulf, and its function as the gateway to the Pelion Peninsula or the
Sporades draws travellers to the city.

Archaeological Museum MUSEUM
( 24210 25285; Athanasaki 1; admission €2; 8.30am-3pm) This excellent museum is set
in a pretty rose garden and houses area finds from Dimini and Sesklo, along with an im-
pressive collection of painted grave stelae from the nearby Hellenistic site of Dimitrias.
