FORT

Looming over the town is the 13th-cen-

. Remarkably, it survived the 1986 earthquake. The entry gate is its most im-
pressive feature. There's not much else to see, but there are good views from the battle-
ments.

This wonderful child-friendly mu-
seum, recently reopened after years of renovation, is a must-visit, especially if you are
struggling to get your head around Greece's ancient history and treasures. The displays
are divided into provincial regions - Kalamata, Pylia, Messini and Trifylia - and you fol-
low a trail that snakes among the exhibits revealing everything from sculptures and mo-
saics to descriptions and images. It's just north of Plateia 23 Martiou.
