Pikoulakis Tower House Museum MUSEUM
( 8.30am-2.30pm Tue-Sun) At the southern end of town (ask for directions), the
Pikoulakis Tower House Museum is a must-see. Housed in a restored tower, the museum
contains exquisite Byzantine pieces from Mani churches, including superb manuscripts
and jewellery.
Walking Routes
There is some fabulous walking in the area - look for the signs in the main square.
Hikers should be experienced in using compasses and equipment as the routes may not
be maintained.

place against the Maniot towers, this concrete block is characterless, but a useful budget
fallback.
Londas Pension B&B $$$

without bathroom €56/65) This 200-year-old tower is the undisputed king of the castle:
stylish whitewashed rooms tastefully decorated in an antique and modern fusion. The
small sign is hard to spot near the Church of Taxiarhes. Minimum two-night stay; pro-
motes 'crisis prices'. The owners will help organise walks in the mountains.
Areos Polis BOUTIQUE HOTEL $$$

boutique(ish) option is on the main square. Each room is unique and varies from the
more modern to those with cast-iron bedsteads and frilly bits.
Eating & Drinking
Eating options are a bit limited in Areopoli; there are a couple of tavernas in the main
square, and on the street leading to the church.
For self-caterers, the small Koilakos supermarket is near Plateia Athanaton.
