The village also had a number of gunpowder factories and a branch of the secret Filiki

It may sound of marginal interest but this excellent little museum offers an illuminat-
ing insight into the region's pre-industrial past. It occupies the old Agios Yiannis mill
complex, 1.5km south of town (signposted), where a spring-fed stream once supplied
power for a succession of mills spread down the hillside.

There is little to distinguish the village tavernas - all serve reasonable fare, such as roost-
er in red wine and

Getting There & Away
There are one to two buses each weekday from Tripoli to Dimitsana (€5, 1½ hours) and
one each weekday from Dimitsana to Tripoli. A taxi to Stemnitsa costs €10, to Monas-
tery of Filosofos €15, and to Ancient Gortys €25.
