Nafplio's award-winning museum is a beautifully arranged collection of folk costumes
and household items from Nafplio's former times. Established by the philanthropic own-
er, it's not to be missed. A lovely gift shop is on the ground floor.

Traces Greece's military history from the War of
Independence onwards through a collection of photographs, paintings, uniforms and as-
sorted weaponry.
Archaeological Museum

Overlooking Plateia Syntagmatos, this museum reopened in 2009 following seven
years of renovations. It features fine exhibits over two light and airy floors. The oldest
exhibits, fire middens, date from 32,000 BC. Another highlight is the only bronze armour
from near Mycenae in existence, dating from the 12th to 13th centuries BC.

This arm of the Athens National Gallery is housed in a
stunningly restored neoclassical building. It features works on the 1821 Greek War of
Independence, including works by Greek painters Vryzakis and Tsokos, considered the
most important artists of the postwar years.

Cruises offers popular full-day trips to the islands of Hydra and Spetses from Tolo, 10km
southeast of Nafplio. You stop off for a couple of hours in each place. You can take a taxi
to/from Tolo (€12) or one of the early/late buses to Tolo may get you there and back, de-
pending on the schedule. There are at least two weekly departures (more in July and
August); any travel agency sells tickets.
