Architecture
Corfu Town is a symphony of pastel-hued Venetian mansions, French arcades and British
neoclassical architecture, earning it a reputation as one of Greece's loveliest towns. For
good measure, there's also a 6th-century fortress. Corfu is dotted with other historic man-
sions while neighbouring islands have traditional whitewashed villages and ancient
windmills.
Activities
Kayak to remote coves, windsail across the blue Aegean, wander among ancient olive
groves and hike through the mountains. Continuous stretches of gorgeous coastline and
quiet interiors lure the adventurous.
Cuisine
Soft braised meat, plenty of garlic, home-made bread, seafood risottos and hand-rolled
pasta allude to an Italian influence in the kitchen. Without a history of Turkish rule, Cor-
fiot cuisine is distinctive and delicious.
