You can make a gorgeous loop connecting Agios Georgios Kastro, Moni Agiou Geras-
imou, Robola vineyards and the sea coast, or walks in Mt Ainos .
Sights
Agios Georgios Kastro RUIN
(Castle of St George; 8.30am-3pm Tue-Sun) This Venetian kastro (castle) from the
1500s sits atop a hill southeast of Argostoli and was the capital of Kefallonia for about
200 years. Well worth a visit for its stellar views, the castle is surrounded by a small vil-
lage with Byzantine churches and restaurants (also with stunning vistas). Palatino (
26710 68490; mains €7-10; lunch & dinner May-Oct) creates home-cooked Kefallonian spe-
cialities. Astraios ( 26710 69152; 9pm-late) is a live Greek music bar owned by ven-
erated musician Dionysos Frangopoulos.
