Fortress of Agia Mavra FORT
( 9am-1pm) This 14th-century Venetian fortress squats immediately across the
causeway. It was first established by the crusaders, but the remains mainly date from the
Venetian and Turkish occupations.
Moni Faneromenis MONASTERY
( 26450 21305; museum 9am-1pm Mon-Sat) Founded in 1634, on a hilltop 3km
west of town, the monastery was destroyed by fire in 1886 and later rebuilt. Views of the
lagoon and town are worth the ascent as is the monastery's museum with a collection of
ecclesiastical art.
