Fortress

Mytilini's imposing early Byzantine fort-
ress was renovated in the 14th century by Genoese overlord Francisco Gatelouzo, and
then the Turks enlarged it again. It's popular for a stroll and is flanked by pine forests.
Archaeological Museum

Located one block
north of the quay, this museum contains impressive finds from neolithic to Roman times,
including ceramic somersaulting female figurines and gold jewellery. The ticket also
grants entry to the New Archaeological Museum.
New Archaeological Museum

The new museum,
400m from the original museum, portrays island life from the 2nd century BC to the 3rd
century AD, including striking floor mosaics under glass.
Church of Agios Therapon

The bulbous dome of this church crowns Mytilini's sky-
line. Its ornate interior boasts a huge chandelier, an intricately carved iconostasis, a
priest's throne and a frescoed dome. Within the church courtyard, you'll find the icon-

Yeni Tzami
MOSQUE
This early 19th-century Turkish mosque with crumbling atmosphere to spare, is near the
end of Ermou Str, where a Turkish market used to thrive.
