In late July and August, Ikaria is host to several island-wide festivals.
Ikaria International Chess Tournament

This small annual event, organised
by local chess aficionado Kosmas Kefalos, draws chess players of all types from around
Europe and beyond. The tournament has been held for more than 30 years and has a dis-
tinct local flavour. This battle of wits takes place each July, with several cash prizes allot-
ted to the best players.
Icarus Festival for Dialogue Between Cultures

This summer-long, island-wide series of concerts, new cinema, dramatic
works and music workshops pulls in prominent Greek and international artists. Events
are scattered around the island and buses are organised for festival-goers.
Frikaria Music Festival

The hip Frikaria Music Festival attracts
music freaks and free spirits alike to various locations, usually above Evdilos. The three-
day event, held in late July or early August, features Greek rock bands and DJ sets. Pro-
grams are available from cafes in Evdilos (try Rififi) and Agios Kyrikos.
Dionysos Theatre Festival
