In-Depth Information

carob tree out back, plus a menu of roast rabbit and onion, fresh Patmos goat and octopus
macarounes . For a drink, sorbets and homemade sweets, head to Stoa Cafe , a hip oasis

ST JOHN THE DIVINE & THE APOCALYPSE
Patmos' Hora is home to the Cave of the Apocalypse , where St John the Divine
was allegedly visited by God and instructed to write the Book of Revelations. He is
often believed to be John the Apostle of Jesus or John the Evangelist, though many
would dispute this due to his exile in AD 95 by the Roman Emperor Domitian. The
Book of Revelations describes the end of the world - involving the final rebellion by
Satan at Armageddon, God's final defeat of Satan and the restoration of peace to
the world. Due to its heavy, dark symbolism some critics have suggested that it
was the work of a deranged man. Whatever you choose to believe, it's worth visit-
ing the cave where it all supposedly took place.
