History
In AD 95, St John the Divine was banished to Patmos by the pagan Roman Emperor
Domitian. While residing in a cave on the island, St John heard the voice of God from a
cleft in the rock, and wrote the Book of Revelations. In 1088 the Blessed Christodoulos,
an abbot, obtained permission from the Byzantine Emperor Alexis I Komninos to build a
