at Camus a Stacca on the island of Jura, where the Moon setting
over Islay at major standstill would just come back into view, with
a glimpse of the upper limb, when the perturbation was at its most
northerly value. Strong support comes from a site at Knockrome,
also on Jura, from which the major-standstill Moon would just
graze Crackaig Hill when the wobble had its full southerly value.
The other alternative is to establish two or three nearly par-
allel alignments bracketing the mean standstill alignment, in
relation to closely grouped minor features on the horizon. At Cal-
lanish on the island of Lewis, for example (Fig. 4.18 ), there are two
lines of eight stones which relate to the reappearance and final
disappearance of the major-standstill (south) Moon behind the
