Hawkins and others who often write with a profound ignorance of
the archaeological facts [ 17 ] .” MacKie held his fire, but subsequently
took mild exception to being placed by Daniel in the ranks of
'lunacy' and 'deluded men' [ 18, 19 ] .
Such was the background of contention against which
'Astronomy in the Parks' took place in 1978-1979, and when the
first draft of this topic was prepared in 1982. It's gratifying to be
publishing it just when the prevailing view of Neolithic society
has changed out of all recognition.
