Jay Gould, Prof. Richard Gregory, Sir Fred Hoyle, Dr. Garry Hunt,
Dr. Sergei Kapitza of the USSR, Prof. Eric Laithwaite, Prof. James
Lovelock, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Archie Roy spoke on
'The Lamps of Atlantis' in 1986 (he's wearing his speaker's tie in
Fig. 5.1 ), and I was the only amateur scientist to address a Heath-
row Conference, on the Fermi Paradox in 1987 [ 3 ] .
During the conference, Leslie expanded his offer, to cover other
targets in the area which the astronomers involved in archaeoas-
tronomy might request. When contacted about the flight. Roy, the
Thoms and MacKie each had a particular request to make. For my
part, as well as the Sighthill circle I was keen to include the stand-
ing stones on Colonsay, and also Temple Wood, Kintraw (Chap. 4 )
and Brainport Bay (see below), all of which I had visited on the tour
organized by the Astronomical Society of Glasgow in 1978.
Meantime, however, the investigation into the Knap-
pers structure at Clydebank had put me in touch with Graham
Ritchie of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical
Monuments of Scotland, who traced the records of the project
