“the standard linear units” that he didn't need to specify them.
Notes on his diagrams implied that the banks were laid out in units
of 21.508 ft, measuring from the center to the outside of the second
ring bank, and from there to the outside of the next ring bank, and
from there to the outside of the fourth. He also refers once to a “beta
or small measure” of 18.9 ft; the difference, 2.608 ft, is close enough
