Horse Riding
It's impossible to watch The Man from Snowy River , the film about 19th-century cattlemen
in Victoria's High Country, without getting the itch to go trailblazing through this stunning
horse-riding terrain. Some of the state's best riding is found in these mountains; Lake Eil-
don and Mansfield are top horse-riding centres. Many companies offer tours in the High
Country, with a choice of one-hour rides to multiday pack trips (some as long as 12 days).
For those who have dreams of cantering along a lonely windswept beach as the sun sets
on the horizon, Victoria's coastline is an enticing option. Close to Melbourne, it's possible
to ride through bush and beach around Gunnamatta ( Click here ) on the Mornington Penin-
sula, and from Aireys Inlet on the Great Ocean Road.
Prices average $45 for a one-hour ride, $90 for a half-day ride and $200 to $225 for a
full-day ride.
