Bicycle
Without the vast distances of other mainland states, Victoria is perfect for cycling, whether road touring or mountain bik-
ing.
Bicycles are carried for free on the Queenscliff- Sorrento ferry and all V/Line regional train services provided you
check in 30 minutes before departure - but be aware if buying a train-coach combination ticket that V/Line bus services
do not carry bicycles. The system of rail trails (disused train lines adapted as cycling paths) is growing in country Victor-
ia, and provides scenic, hassle-free cycling. Some routes connect with V/Line train stations. See
www.railtrails.com.au
for
details.
Bikes can be hired in Melbourne and most towns in regional Victoria, particularly any town where there are well-estab-
lished cycling paths. Typical hire costs $25 to $50 a day, depending on the quality of the bike. Melbourne also has a popu-
lar
bike-share program

with pick-up and drop-off points around
the inner city.
