AROUND SWAN HILL
The Swan Hill region doesn't compare with Mildura in grape production but there are a
few wineries you can visit with cellar-door sales and tastings, including
Brumby Wines
(

;
cnr Murray Valley Hwy & Cannon Lane, Wood Wood)
.
Historic
Tyntyndyer Homestead
( 03-5030 2416; Murray Valley Hwy, Beverford; admission $8.50; by ap-
pointment only)
, located 16km north of town, has a small museum and many reminders of the
hardships of colonial life. Guided group tours require an appointment.
Just 16km southeast of Swan Hill,
Lake Boga
is an interesting little town - especially now
that its namesake lake is full of water again. The famous Catalina flying boat
A24-30
is on
display at the
Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum
( 03-5037 2850;
www.flyingboat.org.au
;
Catalina Park; adult/
child/family $10/3/20; 9.30am-4pm)
. Flying boats were repaired and tested at Lake Boga during
WWII. Inside are lots of displays and photographs.
Further down the highway is a patchwork of lakes, including
Kangaroo Lake
and
Lake
Charm
, which are popular water-sports destinations. Just before you reach Kerang is the
Middle Lake Ibis Rookery
, where birdwatchers can spy the huge flocks of ibis from a bird hide.
Overlooking the water at Lake Boga, the luxurious
Burrabliss B&B
( 03-5037 2527;
www.burrabliss.com.au
;
169 Lakeside Dr; d/ste/villas $150/180/300)
is a fine choice. Go with the friendly
owners to see their ultra-fine-wool sheep, go birdwatching in the wetlands, or walk by the
lake and enjoy the gardens.
