Mt Hotham
& Dinner Plain
ELEV 1868M
Serious hikers, skiers and snowboarders make tracks for Mt Hotham, with some of the
best and most challenging downhill runs in the country.
Activities
Mt Hotham is home to 320 hectares of downhill runs, with a vertical drop of 428m. About
80% of the ski trails are intermediate or advanced black diamond runs. Beginners hit the
Big D, which is open for night skiing every Wednesday and Saturday in winter.
Over at Dinner Plain, 10km from Hotham village and linked by a free shuttle, there are
excellent cross-country trails around the village, including the Hotham-Dinner Plain Ski Trail.
At least six operators offer ski and other equipment hire; the visitors centres have full
lists of outlets, or visit www.mthotham.com.au .
From November to May, Hotham and Dinner Plain boast some stunning alpine trails for
hiking and mountain biking; the most popular is to Mt Feathertop (1922m). This crosses the
Razorback Ridge starting at the Diamantina Hut (2.5km from Mt Hotham village). It's 22km
return and requires sound walking shoes.
Dinner Plain is particularly well set up for summer activities.
