In-Depth Information
Sleeping
Lake Eildon is a beautiful place for bush camping, with several lakeside national-park
sites. All sites ($25.20) must be booked online at www.parkweb.vic.gov.au . Fraser Camp-
ing Area, on Coller Bay 14km northwest of Eildon along Skyline Dr, comprises three sep-
arate camp sites, while the Jerusalum Creek Camping Area is about 8km southwest of Eil-
don. If you have your own boat or are prepared to hike in, there are (free) remote camp
sites at Taylor's Creek, Mountaineer Creek and Cooper Point.
If the Murray River is too far - or you want more room to manoeuvre - Lake Eildon is
the next best place in Victoria to stay on a houseboat. Here, you can hire a luxurious 10-
or 12-berth houseboat (minimum hire per weekend from $1500). Book well ahead for hol-
iday periods.

The little one-pub town of Eildon, which sits on the edge of the pondage, is a popular hol-
iday recreation base, built in the 1950s to house Eildon Dam project workers.
Sights & Activities
Lake Eildon and the rivers that feed into it are popular for fishing, but you don't have to
be a dedicated angler to have fun here. You can drive up to and across the dam's massive
retaining wall to a lookout point , with sensational views over the lake, town and houseboat-
building yards. There are quiet walking and cycling trails along the shores that give easy
access to the best fishing spots.
