Most of the peninsula's wineries are in the hills between Red Hill and Merricks, and most have excellent cafes or
restaurants attached. Several companies offer winery tours - ask at the visitor centre ( Click here ). Wineries to
consider include the following:
Montalto ( 03-5989 8412; www.montalto.com.au ; 33 Shoreham Rd, Red Hill South; cafe mains $14-18, res-
taurant mains $35-39; cellar door 11am-5pm, cafe noon-4pm Sat & Sun, restaurant noon-3pm daily,
6.30-11pm Fri & Sat) Montalto is one of the Mornington Peninsula's best winery restaurants, and the pinot noir
and chardonnay here are terrific. There's also the piazza and garden cafe for casual dining, as well as an olive
grove and shop.
Port Phillip Estate ( 03-5989 4444; www.portphillipestate.com.au ; 263 Red Hill Rd, Red Hill South; 2-/
3-course meal from $68/85, cellar door mains $15-22; cellar door 11am-5pm, restaurant noon-3pm Wed-Sun,
6.30-9pm Fri & Sat) Home of Port Phillip Estate and Kooyong wines, this award-winning winery has an excel-
lent, breezy restaurant and some lighter cellar-door meals.
Red Hill Estate ( 03-5931 0177; www.redhillestate.com.au ; 53 Shoreham Rd, Red Hill South; cellar
door 11am-5pm, restaurant noon-5pm daily, 6.30-11pm Fri & Sat) Red Hill Estate's signature pinot noir and
sparkling wines are outstanding, while Max's Restaurant is one of the best on the peninsula.
Ten Minutes by Tractor ( 03-5989 6080; www.tenminutesbytractor.com.au ; 1333 Mornington -Flinders Rd,
Main Ridge; 5-/8-course tasting menu $109/139, 2-/3-course meal $69/89; cellar door 11am-5pm, restaurant
noon-3pm Wed-Sun, 6.30-9pm Thu-Sat) This is one of regional Victoria's best restaurants and you won't find a
better wine list on the peninsula. The name comes from the three vineyards, which are each 10 minutes apart by
tractor.
T'Gallant ( 03-5989 6565; www.tgallant.com.au ; 1385 Mornington-Flinders Rd, Main Ridge; mains $16-32;
noon-3pm) This winery pioneered luscious pinot gris in Australia and produces the country's best. There's
fine dining at La Baracca Trattoria and sometimes live music on weekends.
Willow Creek Vineyard ( 03-5989 7640; www.willow-creek.com.au ; 166 Balnarring Rd/C784, Merricks
North; mains $36-38; noon-3pm daily, 6-10pm Fri & Sat) Renowned for its sparkling wines, chardonnay and
pinot noir. Chef Bernard McCarthy's Salix Restaurant is a serene place for a sophisticated lunch on the deck or an
intimate dinner.
