Wartook Valley & the Northern Grampians
Lush Wartook Valley runs along the Grampians' western foothills, giving a completely
different perspective of the mountains. Heading to or from Horsham, this is the scenic al-
ternative to the Western Hwy (A8). From Wartook, the sealed Roses Gap Rd and Mount
Victoria Rd pass through the park, and there are lots of unsealed roads and tracks passing
little creeks, waterfalls and idyllic picnic spots. The northern Grampians region suffered
one of its worst bushfires in recent times in mid-January 2014. Most of the tourist infra-
structure was spared, but much of the land has turned from green to black and will take
some time to recover.
You can buy olives and other farm produce at the Mt Zero Olive Grove ( 03-5383 8280;
www.mountzeroolives.com ; Mt Zero Rd; 10am-4pm) . Although it was affected by the January
2014 bushfires, fire damage at the olive grove was minimal and it remains in business.
Walk to the top of Mt Zero from the nearby picnic area. Further south off Roses Gap Rd,
it's a short walk to the base of Beehive Falls .
Wander Inn Restaurant ( 03-5383 6377; 2637 Northern Grampians Rd; mains $14-29; noon-2.30pm Tue-
Sun, 6-8.30pm Thu-Sun) has a certain rustic old-world charm in the licensed restaurant and a
tranquil tearoom and artists' studio attached.
