Kullzénska Café is a cozy, antique-filled eatery in a historic building.
Locals adore its cakes and sandwiches (Mon-Fri 10:00-18:30, Sat
10:00-16:00, Sun 12:00-16:30, Kaggensgatan 26 at the corner of Norra Lång-
gatan, go up the stairs, tel. 0480/28882).
Pizzeria Italia, right on the main Storgatan shopping street, is a handy
place to get a break from Swedish food. While they serve up yummy pizzas
(60-80 kr, or 160-200 kr for family-size), the best deal might be their all-
you-can-eat buffet pizza lunch (90 kr on Mon-Fri 11:00-15:30; 110 kr on
Sat-Sun 12:00-16:00, includes drinks). Sit inside or out front (open Mon-

Supermarket: In the pedestrian district, you'll find the Co-op/Konsum
in the Kvasten mall, at the corner of Kaggensgatan and Storgatan (daily
7:00-22:00, if mall is closed, you can enter supermarket around the corner on
Norra Långgatan).
Near the Castle
(See “Kalmar” map, here .)
The castle lawn cries out for a picnic (buy one in the town center before your
visit). Or you can grab a bite in the café inside the castle itself. Otherwise,
consider one of these options.
Byttan sits in a landmark 1930s functionalist building adjoining the art
museum in the leafy Town Park, offering fine dining (or just a coffee break)
with views of the castle. Choose between trendy indoor and castle-view out-
door tables. In summer only, their best deal is the all-you-can-eat buffet,
offered at lunch (100 kr, available Mon-Fri 11:30-14:30) and at dinner, called
the “grill buffet” (250 kr, from 18:00). You can order off the menu anytime
(in summer Mon-Fri 11:00-22:00, Sat 12:00-22:00, Sun 12:00-17:00, closed
off-season; you'll pass it as you walk to the castle, tel. 0480/16360).
