The island of Sandön feels stranded on the edge of the archipelago, rather
than immersed in it. On its sheltered side is the town of Sandhamn. Though
it's far from Stockholm, Sandhamn is very popular. During the peak of sum-
mer (mid-June through late August), it's extremely crowded. Expect to stand
inline,andcallaheadforrestaurantreservations.Butevenduringthesetimes,
the Old Town is relatively peaceful and pleasant to explore. If the weather's
decent, shoulder season is delightful (though it can be busy on weekends).
Sandhamn's hopes of opening a TI may come to fruition in time for
