summer (mid-June-mid-Aug) and on Friday and Saturday nights year-round.
Because many hotels set prices based on demand, rates listed in this section
can have a wide range. If you ask for discounts and comparison-shop, you're
likely to save plenty. For more booking tips, see here .
Plenty of people offer private accommodations (600-800-kr doubles).
Stockholm's hostels are among Europe's best, offering good beds in simple
but interesting places for about 300 kr per night. Each has helpful English-
speaking staff, pleasant family rooms, and good facilities. Hosteling is
cheapest when you're a member, provide your own sheets, and buy your own
food for breakfast.
A program called Destination Stockholm is, for many (especially fam-
ilies), the best way to book a big hotel on weekends or during the summer.
When you reserve a hotel room through this service, a Stockholm à la Carte
card is thrown in for free. It covers public transportation, most major sights,
and lots of tours—and is even better than the Stockholm Card. Kids sleep and
get cards for free, too. The card is valid every day of your stay, including ar-
rival and departure days. Reserve by phone or online; be sure to review the
cancellation policy before you commit (tel. 08/663-0080, www.destination-
stockholm.com ) .
