Kaknäs Tower (at 500 feet, once the tallest building in Scandinavia—45
kr; June-Aug daily 9:00-22:00; Sept-May Mon-Sat 10:00-21:00, Sun
10:00-18:00; restaurant on 28th floor, east of downtown—bus #69 from Ny-
broplan or Sergels Torg, tel. 08/667-2105); and the Katarina viewing plat-
form in Södermalm, near the Slussen T-bana stop. (The Katarina elevator is
no longer working, but you can get to the platform via a pedestrian bridge
from Mosebacke Torg, to the south.)
▲National Museum of Fine Arts (Nationalmuseum) at the Royal
Swedish Academy of Fine Arts (Kungliga Akademien för de Fria Kon-
sterna) —Stockholm's 200-year-old art museum (on the Blasieholmen penin-
sula) is finally getting a facelift, as its home closes from mid-2013 through
2016 for an extensive renovation. Beginning in the fall of 2013, part of the
collection will be on display at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.
