In-Depth Information
Museum or in Gamla Stan. I've been ripped off enough by cabs here to know:
take only “Taxi Stockholm” cabs with the phone number (08/150-000) prin-
ted on the door. (Other companies that are reportedly honest include Taxi
Kurir, tel. 08/300-000, and Taxi 020, tel. 08/850-400 or 020-20-20-20.) Your
hotel, restaurant, or museum can call a cab, which will generally arrive within
minutes (you'll pay no extra charge—the meter starts when you hop in).
Tours in Stockholm
Stockholm Sightseeing and its parent company Strömma seem to have a
lock on all city sightseeing tours, whether by bus, by boat, or on foot.
Their website ( www.stockholmsightseeing.com ) covers the entire program,
many of which are listed below. For more information on their tours, call
08/1200-4000. Tours can be paid for in advance online, or simply as you
board. The Stockholm Card provides the following discounts on Strömma's
tours: hop-on, hop-off bus—60 kr off the 260-kr price; 1.25-hour quickie
bus tour—50 percent discount on late afternoon departures; Royal Canal
Tour—40 kr off the 150-kr price; 50-minute Historic Canal boat tour—free;
hop-on, hop-off boat—free in May and Sept only. The Stockholm Card does
not cover the Under the Bridges boat tour or Old Town walk.
By Bus
Hop-on, Hop-off Bus Tour Strömma/Open Top Tours' topless double-
decker buses make a 1.5-hour circuit of the city, linking all the essential
places (the combo-ticket covers a total of 25 stops). The bus provides a con-
venient connection to sights from Skansen to City Hall, and the recorded
commentary is good. The blue line tours the north part of town (and serves
the Frihamnen cruise port); the yellow line covers the south end (and stops
at the Stadsgården cruise port). A combo-ticket allows you to switch between
lines (260 kr/24-hour combo-ticket; May-Sept 2/hour daily 10:00-16:00, few-
er in off-season, none mid-Jan-mid-Feb, www.stromma.se ). Stockholm Red
Buses offers a similar hop-on, hop-off itinerary for the same price (only one
route, 19 stops, also serves both cruise ports, 3/hour, www.redbuses.se ) .
