After an introductory stop in Lillehammer, with its fine folk museum, you
might spend the night in a log-and-sod farmstead-turned-hotel, tucked in a
quiet valley under Norway's highest peaks. Next, Norway's highest pass takes
you on an exhilarating roller-coaster ride through the heart of the myth-inspir-
ing Jotunheimen, bristling with Norway's biggest mountains. Then the road
hairpins down into fjord country (see previous chapter).
Planning Your Time
While you could spend five or six days in this area on a three-week Scand-
