Local TIs (listed throughout this chapter) are well-informed about your op-
tions, and they sell tickets for various segments of the trip. At TIs, train sta-
tions, and hotels, look for souvenir-worthy brochures with photos, descrip-
tions, and exact times (a sidebar later in this chapter has sample schedules).
Route Overview:
The basic idea is this: Take a train halfway across the
mountainous spine of Norway, make your way down to the Sognefjord for a
boat cruise, then climb back up out of the fjord to rejoin the main train line.
