In-Depth Information
However, the S-tog is very handy for reaching many of the outlying sights de-
scribed in the Near Copenhagen chapter.
By Boat: The hop-on, hop-off “Harbor Bus” (Havnebus) boat stops at the
“BlackDiamond”library,Christianshavn(nearKnippelsBridge),Nyhavn,the
Opera House, and Nordre Tolbod, which is a short walk from The Little Mer-
maid site. The boat is actually part of the city bus system (lines #901 and
#902) and covered by the tickets described earlier. Taking a long ride on this
boat—from the library to the end of the line—is the “poor man's cruise,”
without commentary, of course (runs 6:00-19:00). Or, for a true sightseeing
trip, consider a guided harbor cruise (described later under “Tours in Copen-
hagen”).
By Taxi: Taxis are plentiful, easy to call or flag down, and pricey (26-kr
pickup charge and then 13 kr/kilometer). For a short ride, four people spend

minutes...with the meter already well on its way.
By Bike: Cyclists see more, save time and money, and really feel like loc-
als. With a bike, you have Copenhagen at your command. I'd rather have a
bike than a car and driver at my disposal. Virtually every street has a dedic-
ated bike lane (complete with bike signal lights). Police issue 500-kr tickets to
anyone riding on sidewalks or through pedestrian zones. Note also that bikes
can'tbeparkedjustanywhere.Observeothersandparkyourbikeamongother
bikes. The simple built-in lock that binds the back tire is adequate.
Your best bet for renting a bike is to ask your hotelier first. Many rent de-
cent bikes at reasonable rates to their guests, saving you a trip to a bike-rental
outlet and letting you hit the road the moment you arrive.
For an (often) better-quality bike and advice from someone with more
cycle expertise, consider one of these rental outfits in or near the city center:
Baisikeli Bike Rental, behind Ørsteds Park just south of Nørreport
(budget bike: 50 kr/6 hours, 80 kr/24 hours, 35 kr/extra day; better “standard”
bike: 80 kr/6 hours, 110 kr/24 hours, 50 kr/extra day; daily 10:00-18:00;

winter; second location tucked behind the Kødbyen district and train station
