6 GRAMS - General Reference
Model for Agent-based
Modeling and Simulation
Based upon the requirements specified in the previous chapter, this
chapter presents the General Reference Model for Agent-based Model-
ing and Simulation (GRAMS).
6.1 Aims and target audience
The General Reference Model for Agent-based Modeling and Simulation
(GRAMS), as proposed in the following, aims to
identify key notions and concepts of agent-based models and their
relations,
provide precise definitions of key concepts of agent-based models
and their simulation,
provide a general template for specification and documentation of
agent-based models,
provide an abstract basis for development of simulation engines
used for simulating agent-based models.
A reference model with precise definitions provides the basis for a
common understanding which in turn may improve model develop-
ment, testing and reusability. The primary intention of the reference
model is not to specify technical recommendations, but to provide a
conceptual framework for agent-based modeling and simulation.
