Processing time minutes The processing time (minimum, aver-
age, maximum) spans the time period
from receiving an order until all re-
quired articles are loaded onto an out-
going truck. Two different situations
are distinguished: The first situation
is that all articles are available in the
warehouse, whereas in the second situ-
ation some (or all) articles have to be
reordered by the warehouse manager.

The costs are determined by the size of
the warehouse (fixed costs), the value
of the inventory and the number of
workers and forklifts.
Utilization
%
The utilization (minimum, average,
maximum) of the warehouse is defined
as the ratio of occupied storage area to
the overall storage area. Similarly, the
utilization of workers and forklifts is
defined as the ratio of the time period
they are actually working (i. e., trans-
porting articles) to the overall simu-
lated time.
