In-Depth Information
Additionally, platforms are used for loading and unloading trucks.
Each platform serves as an intermediate storage area and has
capacity for the equivalent of one truck. Furthermore, each platform
is used exclusively for incoming or outgoing trucks. Therefore, the
actual setup of a warehouse consists of the following parts:
- Overall size of the main area (rectangular layout).
- Size and placement of storage and transportation areas.
- Number and placement of platforms for incoming and outgoing
trucks.
It is assumed that platforms are not part of the warehouse itself,
but are adjacent to its main area.
Initial inventory
The initial inventory describes exactly which articles (name, quant-
ity, storage location) are in stock at the beginning of the simulation.
Workers
Workers are required to transport articles from one place to another.
It has to be specified how many workers are available and where
they are situated at the beginning of the simulation. Furthermore,
individual costs have to be defined for each worker.
Forklifts
Forklifts can be treated similarly to workers. They are able to
transport larger articles and have different individual costs.
List of orders
The orders which the warehouse manager has to fulfill are given in
a deterministic way, i.e., the list of orders contains all orders which
have to be fulfilled during a simulation. The list of orders defines
exactly at which point in time a specific order will be received by
the warehouse manager.
Output parameters According to the objectives, the output para-
meters listed in Table A.1 have been chosen.
