11.3 Outlook
Two areas seem most important for future work: Firstly, tight in-
tegration of the GRAMS reference model into model development
processes and secondly, providing better suited approaches for parallel
execution.
In its current form, the GRAMS reference model targets at sup-
porting the development of conceptual and formal models. Yet, the
GRAMS reference model is not tightly integrated into the model
development process in a way that easy and fast application would be
possible. It would definitely be of great value to provide support on
how to use GRAMS reference model to realize its full potential and
to ensure high eciency in its application.
The most challenging aspect when considering parallel execution is
the decomposition of an agent-based model into the required number
of independent partitions. This thesis did not define completely new
partitioning strategies, but organized existing partitioning strategies
within a common frame. Therefore, the question remains open whether
it is possible to define generic partitioning strategies applicable to
agent-based models of various domains. Also, an evaluation which
type of partitioning strategy is typically best-suited for a specific
classes of agent-based models would be of great interest. Besides
these two work areas, reliability and performability issues are also
important to look at.
