9 Example implementation of
GRAMS
The GRAMS reference model is a conceptual reference model and as
such it aims primarily at the development of conceptual models. For
demonstrating the practical applicability of the GRAMS reference
model, an example implementation is developed which is presented in
this chapter.
9.1 Overview
According to the model development process as described in Sec-
tion 2.1.3 the example implementation is settled at the level of the
executable model and serves the following purposes:
Demonstrate applicability of the GRAMS reference model ( proof-
of-concept )
- to develop agent-based models and
- to serve as a guideline for implementing different simulation
engines.
Provide a baseline for comparing different simulation engines (in
this thesis, especially sequential and parallel simulation engines).
The example implementation is developed from scratch and does
not make use of frameworks or tools like JAMES II [57] and Repast [4].
Although it should be possible to represent the GRAMS reference
model within these frameworks and tools, the decision was not to use
any of the available frameworks and tools. Developing the example
