Sullivan St. Bakery
BAKERY
One of the best pizzas in town is the
bianca
at this upscale bakery. The bread is
fluffy and lightly seasoned with rosemary, olive oil, and a little salt. It's an Old Country slice—rectangular in-
stead of triangular and lacking red sauce—and it's served at an old economy price. Just $2.50 gets you a doughy
length 41⁄2 inches long.

Tehuitzingo Mexican Deli
MEXICAN
A ramshackle counter area that could be a rest stop on a Mexican highway
is the setting for this clandestine
taquería.
Über-authentic tacos are $2.50, generously piled with meat, from juicy
pork
carnitas
to slow-cooked
lengua
to succulent chicken. Even better are the Mexican sandwiches,
tortas,
which
are $6 meals unto themselves. The deli refrigerators stock Mexican beers, for refreshment on the side.

Tulcingo Del Valle Restaurant
MEXICAN
This mom-and-pop spot is as authentic as Tehuitzingo (see above),
but with a sit-down scene. The specials board (mostly under $10) lists fresh-made entree platters, like chicken in
a green pumpkinseed sauce.
Chilaquiles,
fried tortillas in red or green salsa, are a very tasty $6.95. I'm a fan of the
tacos, especially the
carne asada,
at $2.75 a pop.

Woorijip
KOREAN
Korean delis are ubiquitous in New York, but most serve up bland, mainstream cafeteria fare.
To find real Korean dishes, the destination is 32nd Street in Midtown, where a delicious by-the-pound deli is
hidden among pricier Korean restaurants.
Bulgogi,
squid, tofu, jellyfish, Korean pancakes, and, of course, kimchi,
can be found on the serve-yourself buffet line ($6.99 per pound). You can also get snacks and meals, like filling
kimbap
veggie rolls for under $5, and a $1 spicy bean sprout soup.
