In-Depth Information
The centre for rafting and canoeing is the Soča River at Bovec in Primorska. The Soča
is famed as one of the best white-water rafting and kayaking rivers in Europe, and it is one
of only half a dozen rivers in the European Alps whose upper waters are still unspoiled.
Other rafting centres include the Krka River, the Kolpa in Bela Krajina, the Sava River
at Bohinj in Gorenjska, the Savinja River at Logarska Dolina in Štajerska, and the Drava
River near Dravograd in Koroška.
Canyoning, a relatively new sport that has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years,
will have you descending through gorges, jumping over and sliding down waterfalls,
swimming in rock pools and abseiling. It's been described as being in one huge, natural
water park. Operators at Lake Bled can set you up for the day.
For something a little less adrenaline filled, you can rent rowboats and paddle boats on
lakes all around the country. The best backdrops are at Lake Bohinj and Lake Bled in
Gorenjska.
