GETTING AROUND
Air
Slovenia has no scheduled domestic flights, but a division of Adria Airways called Avio-
taxi ( 041 636 420, 04-236 34 60; www.adria-airways.com ) flies chartered four-seater
Piper Turbo Arrows on demand to airports and aerodromes around the country. Sample re-
turn fares for three passengers from Brnik airport are €95 to Bled, €134 to Bled and Bohinj,
€172 to Slovenj Gradec and €369 to Portorož or Maribor.
Bicycle
Cycling is a popular way of getting around. Bikes can be transported for €2.80 in the bag-
gage compartments of IC and regional trains. Larger buses can also carry bikes as luggage.
Cycling is permitted on all roads except motorways. Larger towns and cities have dedicated
bicycle lanes and traffic lights.
Bicycle rental places are generally concentrated in the more popular tourist areas such as
Ljubljana, Bled, Bovec and Piran, though a fair few cycle shops and repair places hire them
out as well. Expect to pay from €1/5 per hour/day; some places may ask for a cash deposit
or a piece of ID as security.
