walls and vaults with remnants of frescoes from the early 15th century and carved effigies
of the Apostles. Parts of Celje's medieval walls Offline map Google map and ramparts can
be seen along Ulica na Okopih, west of the church. In the southeast corner of Slomškov
trg is the Chapel of St Elizabeth Offline map Google map (Kapela Sv Elizabete) and the
15th-century town almshouse Offline map Google map (mestni špital).
Contiguous with Slomškov trg is Glavni trg, the heart of the Old Town. It is filled with
lovely town houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries and, in the warmer months,
outdoor cafes. In the centre of the square is the requisite plague pillar Offline map
Google map (1776) dedicated to Mary.

from the late 19th century onwards and includes a re-creation of an early-20th-century

Trg Celjskih Knezov
The funnel-shaped Square of the Celje Counts leads north from Muzejski trg. At the start
is the Lower Castle Offline map Google map (Spodnij grad) built in the 14th century for the
Celje Counts and today containing the Centre for Contemporary Arts Offline map

lating Račka Gallery of Erotic Art Offline map Google map (Galerija Erotike Račka), a
first for Slovenia, as well as the Roman annexe to the Regional Museum. To the north is
the National Hall Offline map Google map (Narodni Dom; Trg Celjskih Knezov 9) , the cul-
tural and social centre for Celje's Slovenes at the end of the 19th century and now the city
hall.

Breg
On the south bank of the Savinja River a covered stairway with 90 steps at Breg 2 leads to
the Capuchin Church of St Cecilia Offline map Google map (Kapucinska Cerkev Sv Ce-
cilije). The Germans used the nearby monastery (now apartments) as a prison during
