One of the most important and oldest festivals of Slove-
nian folklore, Jurjevanje is five days of music, dance and bonfires at the fairground near
the train station and other locations around town in mid-June. It's based on the Zeleni Jurij
(Green George), an early Slavic deity of vegetation, fertility and spring.

Camping grounds in the region of Črnomelj include those at Podzemelj, 9km northeast of
Črnomelj; Adlešiči, 12km to the southeast; and Vinica, 19km to the south.

river to the south of the Old Town is pretty decent. The four rooms are bright and attract-
ive, and it's an easy walk into central Črnomelj.

For pizza, try this place just southeast of the
bank and post office. It's not the most authentic but it's cheap and central. Enter from
Ulica Otona Župančiča.
