Bus
Destinations served by bus from Metlika include Črnomelj (€2.70, 30 minutes, seven
daily during the week), Novo Mesto (€3.60, one hour, 30km) and Vinica (€5.60, 1½
hours, 46km, three daily during the week).
Train
Metlika has up to eight trains daily from Ljubljana (€7.20, 2¾ hours) via Novo
Mesto and Črnomelj (€1.60, 20 minutes). Three to five trains a day head for Karlovac in
Croatia.

The hills to the north and northeast of Metlika are some of the Bela Krajina wine district's
most important areas and produce such distinctive wines as Metliška Črnina (the ruby-red
'Metlika Black') and a late-maturing sweet 'ice wine' called Kolednik Ledeno Vino.
They're also superb areas for easy walking.
