On Kambičev trg, across the small bridge from the bus stop (but enter from Oražnova
ulica), stands the Church of St Nicholas (Cerkev Sv Miklavža), a tiny late-Gothic struc-
ture. The presbytery contains brightly coloured frescoes of scenes from the Old and New
Testaments painted in 1931.
About 200m northwest along Oražnova ulica is a 15th-century manor house containing
the

Continue along Oražnova ulica, passing a decrepit fin-de-siècle house (No 24), to the
Parish Church of St James
(Župnijska Cerkev Sv Jakoba), a 13th-century Romanesque
building with a mostly baroque interior. Above the carved stone portal on the western side
are geometric designs and decorative plants and trees. On the south side is a 15th-century
depiction of Jesus rising from the tomb, as well as ancient grave markers embedded in the
wall.
Talcev ulica, the island's other street, is lined with attractive 'folk baroque' houses, in-
cluding the 200-year-old
St Nicholas Pharmacy
at No 20.

grassy 'beach' along the Krka in front of Bar Štravs, Kanu Safari rents canoes for €10 per
hour and can drop you upriver for €30 so you can lazily paddle back.

In the village
of Sela pri Šentjerneju, 7km west of Kostanjevica, this is the second-largest stud in Slove-
nia, after the one at Lipica in Primorska, and has 60 horses. It has riding tours of two
hours, a full day and two days and boasts a riding school too.
