Getting There & Away
Bus Buses from Ljubljana to the coast as well as Ajdovščina stop in Postojna (€6, one
hour, 53km, hourly). Other destinations include Cerknica (€3.10, 30 minutes, 24km, six
on weekdays), Koper (€6.90, 1¼ hours, 68km, four to seven daily), Nova Gorica (€6.70,
1½ hours, 63km, five to eight a day), Piran (€8.30, 1½ hours, 86km, three or four a day),
and Snežnik and Stari Trg pri Ložu (€8, two hours, 88km, 2.10pm weekdays).
International bus destinations include Trieste (€5.70, 1¼ hours, 52km, 6.50am Monday
to Friday and 7.40am Monday to Saturday) in northern Italy, Rijeka (€11, 1½ hours,
82km) and Split (€37.50, 9½ hours, 474km) in Croatia at 8.35pm daily, and Banja Luka
(€29.90, six hours, 378km, 3.04pm Tuesday and Thursday) in Bosnia-Hercegovina.
Train Postojna is on the main train line linking Ljubljana (€4.90, one hour, 67km) with
Sežana and Trieste via Divača (€2.90 to €4.45, 40 minutes, 37km), and is an easy day trip
from the capital. As many as 20 trains a day make the run from Ljubljana to Postojna and
back. You can also reach Koper (€5.90 to €10.30, 1½ hours, 86km) on one of up to seven
trains a day.
Getting Around
Bus Buses bound for Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle leave Postojna's train station at
10.30am, noon, 2.30pm and 4.10pm. The bus is free but those with train tickets take pre-
cedent. The last bus from the castle is at 4.40pm and from the cave at 5.05pm.

Cerknica is the largest town on a lake that isn't always a lake - one of Slovenia's most un-
usual natural phenomena. It's an excellent springboard for the gorge at Rakov Škocjan and
Notranjska Regional Park as a whole.
