(Manziolijev trg) Opposite the Mary of Haliaetum church is the renovated Venetian Goth-
ic Manzioli House, which was built in 1470 and was the residence of an Istrian chronicler
in the 16th century. Today it houses the bureau looking after the interests of the commu-
nità italiana (Italian community) in Izola.
Besenghi degli Ughi Palace

(cnr Gregorčičeva ulica & Ulica Giordano Bruno) Izola's most beautiful building is the
rococo Besenghi degli Ughi Palace below the Parish Church of St Maurus. Built between
1775 and 1781, the mansion has windows and balconies adorned with stuccos and won-
derful wrought-iron grilles painted light blue. It is now a music school.

Fri) Izola Museum can now make its superlative claim to fame with the Parenzana, a
branch of the Pomorski Museum Sergej Mašera in Piran. It has train models - the largest
such collection in the world - and ship models too.
Activities
There are pebble beaches to the north and southeast of the Old Town, but the best one is
at Simon's Bay about 1.5km to the southwest. It has a grassy area for sunbathing.
The Prince of Venice is a 39.6m high-speed catamaran that makes day trips between
Izola and Venice. A number of boats offer sailing excursions lasting 2½ to three hours
from the main port just off Veliki trg. They include Delfin II ( 041 675 781, 641 45
38; adult/child €12/8; 10am Tue & Thu) and Meduza ( 041 675 781; adult/child
€12/8; 10am & 5pm daily) . You can rent sailing boats (from €60 per day) and speed-
boats (from €95 a day) from Adriarent ( 041 300 050, 663 24 60; 8-10am &
6-8pm) at the marina a short distance from the Hotel Delfin.
