Lokev, halfway between Divača and Lipica. It was the first karst cave to open to the pub-
lic in the early 19th century and still welcomes guests every Sunday year-round.
Divača Cave

3.35; 3pm Sun May-Oct) Divača Cave, about 3km northeast on the road to Divača, is
only 672m long but has excellent dripstones and rock formations.

€23-26) This welcoming spot in Matavun is just steps south of the entrance to the caves
and as close as you are going to get. It has four traditionally styled rooms, with a total of
10 beds, in a charming old farmhouse. We love the old kitchen with the open fire.
Gostilna Malovec €
( 763 12 25; Kraška 30a; s/d €32/48) The Malovec, in Divača, has a half-dozen basic,
but comfortable, renovated rooms in a building beside its butcher's (!) and popular res-
taurant (mains €5 to €15, open 8am to 10pm daily), which serves Slovenian favourites (in-
cluding first-rate gibanica - a rich dessert) to an appreciative crowd.

bit more, well, 21st century, try this large and lively pizzeria and pub in Divača with great
salads and a large back terrace.
