Crossing the Vršič Pass
7 Making your way - whether by car or (yikes) bike - across this mind-bogglingly
scenic Alpine pass ( Click here ), as it zigzags through peaks and promontories, it's
hard not to think of those poor Russian POWs who built the road during WWI. They're
given their due, and the passage is now called the Ruska cesta (Russian Road), but talk
about hard work. This summer-only roadway links Kranjska Gora with Bovec, 50km to the
southwest, and includes a number of photo-op rest stops and several mountain huts along
the way.
