In-Depth Information
sells all manner of articles made of wrought iron - from lamps and doorknobs to garden gates - including some very
trendy-looking brushed metal trays and vases.
Kropa is not exactly awash with dining and lodging options, though don't miss a chance to try the traditional
Slovenian cooking at Gostilna Pr' Kovač (At the Smith's; 04-533 63 20; Kropa 30; mains €7.50-12;
10am-11pm Tue-Sun) . On our visit, the veal stew flavored with a hint of coriander and served with a side of buck-
wheat groats laced with pork crackling was a meal to remember. Sit outside in hot weather or dine in an evocative
period setting inside the 400-year-old house. The gostilna has one room to let upstairs (per person 30€), but you'll
have to book well in advance.
Most days are fairly quiet in Kropa, though Smith's Day (Kovaški Dan; www.uko.si ;
2 Jul) , brings a bit
more excitement in the form of sporting and cultural events.
If you don't have your own car, the best way to get here is by bus from Radovljica. Seven to 12 buses a day run
between the towns (€2.20, 20 minutes, 13km). Buses stop in front of the Mercator (Kropa 3a;
8am-6pm Mon-
Fri, 7am-1pm Sat) supermarket at the bottom of the village.
