Sitting atop one of Ljubljana's oldest
gostilna
(inn-like restaurant), with a
400-year-old linden tree, this 10-room inn offers plain rooms but excellent value in a part
of the city that is filling up with bars and restaurants. We love the communal kitchen, the
original hardwood floors and the east- facing terrace with deckchairs that catch the morn-
ing sun.

This at-
tractive boutique hotel has been cobbled together from several town houses in the Old
Town. There are 16 spacious rooms and a multitiered back garden. The decor is kitsch
with a smirk and there are fabulous touches everywhere. Among our favourite rooms are
enormous No 8, with views of the Hercules Fountain, and No 13, with glimpses of
Ljubljana Castle.

Another historic boutique hotel in Old Town, the 17-room Allegro is a sym-
phony of designer chic with rooms that give on to Gornji trg and a charming back court-
yard. Room No 3 has a balcony and No 12 at the top sleeps four. The front lounge - a par-
lour, really - is on two levels and we love the original wood staircase.

It's got a grandiose name, but wait till you see the facilities at this attractive
6-hectare camping ground-cum-resort 4km north of the centre. Along with a 62-room
hotel (singles/doubles €67/104) and five stationary mobile homes (€84 to €108), there's
the Laguna water park next door, which is free for guests. Take bus 6, 8 or 11 to the Ježica
stop.
